Reconstructing Hadrian’s Wall: How did it look in antiquity?

By Professor David Breeze

Hot on the heels of the Cambrians’ summer meeting in Durham, during which we visit several sites along Hadrian’s Wall under the expert guidance of David Breeze, we are delighted to announce that he has agreed to deliver our 2026 Christmas lecture to help us explore further the possible reconstructions of the wall.

There are many artists’ impressions of how Hadrian’s Wall might have looked in antiquity. In his presentation David Breeze will go back to the basic evidence and offer different perspectives of Britain’s major Roman monument.

David Breeze published his first book on Hadrian’s Wall 50 years ago. He continues to mine its rich archaeological data base. David was chair of the International Congress of Roman Frontier Studies and is an honorary professor at the universities of Durham, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Stirling.
