Hello, Elizabeth and Henry

Elizabeth Walker, General Secretary

We wondered if anyone could possibly replace Heather as General Secretary, but to our delight Elizabeth Walker, past President of the Association and recently retired from Amgueddfa Cymru, volunteered to take on the job. She has already successfully produced the Newsletter for this year and is actively involved in several other projects.

Elizabeth held a curatorial role in the museum covering a wide range of collections and periods, so she brings with her an extensive knowledge of Welsh archaeology; her own specialism lies in early prehistory, especially the study of caves and stone tools as her Presidential Address, now published in Archaeologia Cambrensis, reveals.

Thank you so much Elizabeth. We hope you enjoy serving as our new Secretary and that we don’t work you too hard!

The retirement of Marie Thérèse left a vacancy in our Trustees’ Board, and we are pleased to welcome Henry Owen-John to join us. Henry has recently retired from English Heritage where he had responsibility for the management of World Heritage Sites in England, before which he worked as Deputy Director of the Glamorgan Gwent Archaeological Trust. He also served as Chair of Commissioners for the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales. So he too has a breadth of archaeological and management experience from which the Association will benefit considerably.
