Autumn Weekend Brecon, Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th September
We have just found out that our proposed main venue, the Castle Hotel, Brecon, is no longer suitable as our base for the weekend. We have therefore cancelled our booking and will be refunded our deposit on 20 rooms. The hotel is due to close soon for refurbishment and when it reopens in late summer will no longer have a suitable functions room nor group dining facilities. Booking advice for the Castle via Amber Walsh of the Coaching Inn group at either 01858 438300 or via a.walsh@innmail.co.uk is now cancelled.
We are actively pursuing a central lecture room for the Friday and Saturday evening lectures and a private dining room for our group dinners on the Friday and Saturday evening. We are also drawing up an Accommodation list – there are other small hotels and numerous B&B’s close to the centre of Brecon and the Castle Hotel should be open for private bookings. September seems a long way away with hopefully an exciting Spring and Summer of events ahead of us. However accommodation in Brecon does get booked up , so please contact Heather (h.james443@gmail.com) for this list if you need advice on accommodation.
There will be some changes in the order of visits in the Programme and a revised Programme will be circulated soon but visits and speakers for Brecon College, the Cathedral, Y Gaer Museum and other locations as in the Programme circulated in the Newsletter are all in place. We will be joined by members of the Brecknock Society for some events and we now have our member, and President of the Brecknock Society, Nigel Clubb, to give us an introductory talk on Friday evening to Brecon’s history, topography and buildings.
The Registration Fee (£30) and Day Costs (£35) on the Booking Form circulated in the Newsletter and on the website remain unchanged and when booking it would be helpful if you indicate whether you would like dinners on the Friday and Saturday nights and where you will be staying or whether you are non-resident.
We hope you will support what promises to be an interesting and varied weekend in Brecon.
