Cancellation of Cowbridge Day, 10 October, 2020

It will come as no surprise to Cambrians that we have had to cancel our proposed day meeting in Cowbridge on Saturday 10 October, 2020.

Very sadly, the Vale of Glamorgan has joined the counties of Wales now placed in lockdown, which makes travelling to the sites we were due to visit quite impossible.

The Bear Hotel has sent a message hoping that we will be able to reschedule a visit at some time in the future, but with the uncertainty of everything, we just have to cancel completely for the time being. We will at least go ahead with the original planned October full weekend conference at some point, probably in Autumn 2022.

Some pictures I took during the preparation for our day meeting included Dyffryn Gardens, Llanblethian Castle and St Lythan’s Burial Chamber:

I am so very sorry to have to do this and am aware that members have had a very restricted programme this year. We hope that 2021 will be getting back to some semblance of normality and will continue to keep members up to date with other events on line, through the website and social media.

However, all is not completely lost. On 29 September, we managed to install, as our new President for 2020-21, Professor Michael Jones, albeit in a correctly socially distanced manner, in his garden in the historic village of Norwell, near Newark and that ceremony and the Presidential Address have been recorded. We will issue links to these videos soon so that members can listen at their leisure.

We also have the Zoom AGM on 15 October at 7.30pm for which invitations will be sent in due course.

Please don’t forget to cancel your bookings at the Bear Hotel and we will now send out reimbursements to all Cambrians who had booked for the day.
